Aunt Carrie's War Against

Black Fox

Nuclear Power Plant

by Carrie Barefoot Dickerson

with Patricia Lemon

This book chronicles the epic nine-year struggle of Carrie Barefoot Dickerson, at the time a mother of four and grandmother of five, against the construction of the Black Fox nuclear power plant near her farm in northeastern Oklahoma.

Carrie and her organization, Citizen's Action for Safe Energy, fought Black Fox through legal means. Her story is one of an unlikely modern heroine who prevailed against tremendous odds to save her state from an environmental and fiscal disaster. Although she spent her life savings and mortgaged her farm to pay for the fight, she never regretted it, and continued to be active in battles to preserve the environment in Oklahoma and neighboring states until her death. Her story will be an inspiration to environmental activists and concerned citizens alike.
