Carrie Barefoot Dickerson

Carrie Dickerson's qualifications to become a successful legal intervenor against nuclear power were meagre when she bagan her war against the Black Fox Nuclear Power plant. At age 56, she was a farm wife, former school teacher, registered nurse, and operated Aunt Carrie's Nursing Home in the little town of Claremore, Oklahoma (famous as the childhood home of Will Rogers and the setting for the musical Oklahoma!).

The nine-year battle changed her life and depleted her retirement savings. Today, at 78, she earns her living by teaching quilting and selling herbal products. She also continues her vigilance against nuclear pollution. Recently, she has been active in efforts to prevent the dumping of nuclear wastes on Native American tribal land.

The story of Citizens Action For Safe Energy and the fight against the Black Fox Nuclear Power Plant is told in Carrie's autobiography, Aunt Carrie's War Against Black Fox Nuclear Power Plant, published by Council Oak Publishing, Inc.
